Two years ago, models were already floating down the international runways like dancers and the rise of ballet core took its course. Whether at Dior in transparent tulle dresses with bustier inserts or at Miu Miu, where the models walked in thick woollen socks with ballerinas and transparent glitter dresses.
This year, ballerina chic has become an integral part of the fashion and beauty world. At Chloé, skintight strap tops met delicately swinging chiffon skirts and the highlight at Sportmax is a rose-coloured blazer with tulle inserts. Christian Siriano created black tutus for men and combined them with cropped tuxedos. Here we show you how to follow the ballerina trend in terms of make-up and hairstyle.
What is Ballet Core and what characterises the style?
Similar to the athleisure trend, where sports fashion meets everyday styles, the ballet core uses elements from classical ballet - especially those from dance training - and combines them in a way that is suitable for everyday wear. But what exactly is the Ballet Core? The most important elements and colours are
- Rosé, Nude und White: The shades are the basis for every ballerina look
- Tight tops or bodies play an important role. After all, every movement counts in dance.
- Gauntlets and warm woollen socks
- Swinging and transparent fabrics such as tulle and chiffon.
- Comfortable ballerina-style shoes in leather or satin, like Miu Miu's - preferably in combination with white socks
- Bolero or fine knit cardigans
- Bows, for the hair, but also on clothing and accessories.
- The understated make-up is dominated by shades of pink.
The right hairstyle for the ballet core trend
The romantic yet sporty ballet core outfits also need the right beauty look. Here you can take inspiration from the classic ballerina style. A bun is an absolute must-have. You can make it really romantic by adding a bow or using a hair tie with an integrated bow.
To do this, comb your hair tightly back and make a ponytail with a hair tie. Now twist your hair into a bun and secure it with hairpins in your hair colour.
My tip: If your hair isn't manageable enough after washing, add some texturising or salt spray to the lengths. For the perfect shine, use the Nutritive - Split End Serum from Kérastase, that you apply at the end.
The make-up for Ballet Aesthetic
Make-up for the ballet core is all about a certain naturalness - sportiness paired with elegance. Smokey eyes or red lips are out of place here. It is mainly rosy shades that are used to emphasise your natural beauty. They suit all skin types and hair colours.
Use the brush to apply pink or nude-coloured eyeshadow to the mobile lid and blend it well towards the brows. Carefully dab the highlighter into the inner corners of the eyes. Then apply mascara to one lash and your eye make-up is ready. Then apply a generous sweep of blusher to the cheeks. Don't be afraid to overdo it. You'll look like a prima ballerina after dance training.
A hint of colour is enough for the lips. Carolina uses a highlight from Fleeky in her video: the Plumpy Lip Gloss in Rose Nude. However, a tinted lip balm, if you like it more subtle. The slightly shimmering L'Absolu Gloss from Lancôme adds a touch of glamour.
The right nails for the ballerina trend
The same colour scheme applies to nails as to make-up if you want to match them to the ballet aesthetic. Here too, elegant restraint is the key to ballet core happiness. Nude, taupe, rosé, beige or even a transparent light shimmer are just right and emphasise naturalness. It is important that you take good care of your nails and strengthen them with nail oil, for example. Do you like French nails? Go for it
Ballet Core: We are part of it
I think the ballet core look is absolutely suitable for everyday wear and you can also combine it with completely different clothing styles. It goes just as well with a simple jeans look as it does with a summer dress for a date at the ice cream parlour.
Just give it a try.
