Home spa: our tips for your wellness programme at home

There is a spa that is open around the clock. There is no entrance fee and you are not exposed to prying eyes. You don't have to travel and can - if you want - fall straight into bed and relax after your beauty ritual. We're talking about your home spa, of course, which you can enter regardless of the clock or opening hours. I love making myself really beautiful in my home spa and pampering myself from head to toe.

Why home spa?

I love my home spa because I can follow my own rhythm here and let myself drift as I please. Provided, of course, that my family doesn't get in the way. Apart from the freedom to organise my time, one of the advantages for me is that I can save on expensive treatments and invest this money in really good products that I can use for a long time. I often don't have time for manicure appointments and the like in my everyday life, but I can easily manage an overnight hand mask or a dry brush massage

The right preparation for your home spa

Make sure you've really done everything before you start. There's nothing worse than suddenly remembering that you wanted to start the washing machine or realising that you urgently need to descale the bathroom taps as you're soaking in the warm bath. Turn on some nice music, switch your mobile phone to silent or flight mode and dim the lights. I think scented candles are really wonderful for creating a relaxed atmosphere. I also love the room sprays from Farfalla, which instantly conjure up a cosy, warm atmosphere. The Fortifying organic room spray and the Aura Protecting Organic Space Spray immediately bring me down, which is probably due to the essential oil of Swiss stone pine that unites both fragrances.

Home spa: relaxation for body and soul

Before I get into the warm water, I brush my body vigorously. I use the dry brush from YÙ BEAUTY to remove dead skin cells and at the same time stimulate my skin's circulation so that it can better absorb the subsequent skincare products. Only then do I get into the bath, armed with a book.

No question - a warm bath with soothing oils, for example with the Relaxing Bath & Shower Concentrate from Clarins, is really relaxing. But if you don't have a bathtub, I have some good news for you: You can enjoy the relaxing scent of lavender with essential oils of Roman chamomile and bitter orange just as well in the shower. Dr Hauschka's Stone Pine Sea Salt Cleansing Gel has a similar effect to the Clarins gel and is a wonderful way to start the day. It's like entering your own home spa in the morning before work.

The paradox of water is that it dries out the skin. After a long bath or a hot shower, it is therefore essential to use a good body lotion or a nourishing body oil. It's best to massage the oil into the skin while it's still damp - that way it can absorb it better and the moisture is restored. I'm currently using BABOR SPA - Shaping Body Lotion, which has a very light, milky texture and is absorbed in a flash. When it's colder, I can recommend the intensive moisturiser from Cetaphil. It protects your skin as well as a thick down coat.

Facials without a beautician at home

I also want to give my face a little attention in the home spa. To do this, I start with a gentle cleanser, for which I reach for my Foreo Luna, which has been a faithful companion for many years. I'm currently using the Active Clean - Gel Cleanser from 11 Village Factory as a cleansing gel. It doesn't foam, removes make-up and excess sebum and has a low pH value that balances the skin. I then exfoliate my skin with the Daily Microfoliant from Dermalogica and then treat myself to a sheet mask, which provides intensive moisture and ensures that my head finally switches off too.

My tip for an even more intensive treatment: use the dermaroller from Fleeky for a higher intensity. The 3 mm needles penetrate the skin just a little and ensure that new collagen is formed. At the same time, the skin can absorb nutrients even better. However, this is not a real microneedling treatment like the one performed by a beautician. The professional needles penetrate much deeper and have a greater effect. Nevertheless, you should be careful with your dermaroller in the home spa and use it at most twice a week so as not to irritate your skin unnecessarily.

Home Spa: Manicure easy made

For me, a manicure is also part of the home spa ritual. I have just discovered the fantastic hand masks from IROHA, which are available with different active ingredients. Just put them on and relax. I opted for the version with Bakuchiol (has an antioxidant effect and combats dark spots) and niacinamide (strengthens the skin barrier). In addition to this home treatment, regularly massaging in nail oil is also essential. When it comes to colour, I have long relied on Essie Gel Couture. The polishes can be applied in the same way as conventional polishes, but with the top coat they dry super quickly and last a very long time. Even after days, my nails look absolutely flawless.

I've also just discovered the Nail Addict - Gel Nail Strips from Ardell. Simply choose the right size of UV foil, place it on the nail and press it on. File off the excess and leave to harden under the UV lamp. Your manicure is ready, just like in the nail salon. My friends have asked me about it because it looks so good and really professional.

I'm an absolute fan of the home spa and the fact that I can decide flexibly when to treat myself to a little me-time. You can also use really good products on a small budget and get the best out of them. Are you also part of Team Home Spa or do you prefer to go to a beauty expert? In that case, why not pop into one of our salons? There you can have your eyebrows plucked and coloured, for example, and we also offer nail design. In any case, have a good time.

💋, Susanna
